Matthew E. Brooks
Matthew E. Brooks graduated from Medina High School, and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Columbia College in New York City. He received his Juris Doctorate degree from Villanova University School of Law in 1994. He joined the firm in 1996 and became a partner in 2002. His experience includes a year and a half in Moscow, Russia, where Mr. Brooks served as Deputy Director/General Counsel for Claremont Group, Inc., a Russian Corporation. He took part in the daily operation of the company, which involved real estate, construction and technology importation.
Mr. Brooks has worked on both the prosecution and defense sides of litigation involving Personal Injury, Contracts, Business Law, Conversion, Real Estate, Fraud, Landlord/Tenant and Estate Litigation. He also has an active criminal practice, representing criminal defendants in Niagara, Erie and Orleans Counties. Mr. Brooks also practices in the areas of Trusts and Estates, and Bankruptcy. He is admitted to the New York Bar, as well as the United States District Court and the United States Bankruptcy Court, Western District of New York.
In 2008, Mr. Brooks became the Village Attorney for his hometown of Medina, New York. In such capacity, he handles the Village’s legal affairs in all municipal matters, including: preparing legislation, land use and planning, zoning, contracts, litigation, procurement, building code violations, labor matters and economic development.
Mr. Brooks is currently Deputy Corporation Counsel for the City of Lockport, where he handles a wide variety of duties including: Housing Court and City prosecutions. He is a member of the Lockport City Bar Association (former President), the Niagara County Bar Association, the Erie County Bar Association and the New York State Bar Association.
